Michael Owen has cautioned Marcus Rashford that he needs to enhance his mental game to regain his form while playing for Manchester United.
Rashford netted the inaugural goal of the Amorim era, appearing just two minutes in to secure an early advantage for United against Ipswich Town, and later scored two more in the 4-0 victory over Everton.
Despite an encouraging start, Rashford has lost his spot in Amorim’s favored starting lineup and was sidelined for United’s Premier League matches against Arsenal and Nottingham Forest.
The Englishman began the Europa League match versus Viktoria Plzen but was substituted over half an hour before the end after not performing well in a central position.
As the Red Devils gear up for a crucial match of the season against their fierce rivals Manchester City, Owen has urged the 27-year-old to enhance his mental game to return to peak form.
‘With Marcus, it doesn’t appear to me that it’s about ability,’ the ex-United forward told Metro. “It’s primarily a psychological aspect.”
“We’ve witnessed his skill numerous times, so I believe no one doubts his talent; however, mentally, I feel he should improve a little.”
Perhaps this administration will pull him along. Perhaps he’s one of those players you consider, “no, everyone else is succeeding, he may not be, and it could require time.”
You can only wish that the new format, the new system brings out his best.
While there were worries about Rashford, Owen expressed much more optimism regarding the indicators displayed by new manager Amorim, who has secured victories in three out of his first six matches across all competitions since joining from Sporting Lisbon in November.
Right now, I would simply remain patient, observe, and appreciate, as they are already a much better team than the last one,’ Owen stated.
You can already observe how the team will progress, and they seem to generate significantly more opportunities and score additional goals.
“I believe it’s already very thrilling, but I feel it will only improve further.” Fans of Man United have been waiting patiently for quite a while, and I believe it’s appropriate to allow this guy some time.
