Like Father, Like Son: Milan’s Rising Star Denzel Aims to Continue Seedorf Legacy

At times, it feels as though events are meant to happen, and this certainly holds true for the ‘Seedorf’ name in relation to AC Milan.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Denzel Seedor was born on the 25th of May, 2007. Two days prior to embracing him for the first time, his father Clarence had lifted the most recent Champions League trophy won by Milan to the sky of Athens with those same hands.

Clarence is undoubtedly a Dutch champion who has made history with the Rossoneri, while his son Denzel aspires to be a player and hopes to debut at San Siro one day. On Sunday, he trained with the first team for the first time under Paulo Fonseca’s guidance.

Seedorf junior is emulating his father’s path on the field as well: he plays as a midfielder like his dad, albeit with different traits. Clarence’s class is clearly still light years ahead, whereas Denzel prefers to enter areas and search for goals with late runs.

Currently, he is testing his skills with AC Milan’s Under 18 team (he netted a goal against Roma this season), a club he became part of when he was 12 years old. Interesting tidbit: although he was born in Milan, young Seedorf holds both a Dutch and Brazilian passport (his mother Luviana hails from Rio de Janeiro).

During an interview a few months back with Globo Esporte, he admitted that he identifies more with green and gold than with orange: “The national team? If I ever had to make a choice, I would pick Brazil. I communicate in Portuguese rather than Dutch, and I adore Brazilians and their cultural richness. “Actually, I experience the Carioca culture within my home.”

Denzel’s name is also found on the notebooks of the selectors for the Italian youth teams. Therefore, if he truly fulfilled his promises, eventually Italy might present him with a shirt. For the time being, he must perform well in the red and black shirt and doesn’t sense the burden of his significant surname.

During the same interview, he mentioned his father who “never pressured me to do anything,” stating: “Actually, he preferred that I play tennis rather than football.” “Yet he continued to back me and is pleased with my journey.”

The journey ahead is still lengthy, yet Seedorf junior approaches the future with hope: “I understand that having the right mentality is crucial to becoming a footballer.” “However, I believe I wouldn’t be at Milan if they hadn’t recognized something within me.” In the meantime, the initial experience of Milanello has already come.
