FC Barcelona is on the hunt for a new left-back, but it probably won’t be Alphonso Davies as earlier speculated.
Davies is believed to be most probable to extend his contract at Bayern Munich, or possibly transfer to Real Madrid. However, the likelihood of him signing with Barcelona appears to be rather slim.
The Catalans remain cautious regarding expenses, yet the situation has turned into an issue. Alejandro Balde is highly regarded, but the squad requires more depth at minimum, or possibly a player capable of surpassing him. That’s based on a rumor indicating that, despite the issues at the position, a new acquisition in January is improbable.
Meanwhile, Barcelona has relied on Gerard Martín and Héctor Fort, both of whom have not excelled significantly. Martín is almost 23 and has performed decently at times, yet Barcelona requires an improvement. Fort is 18 and considered a future talent, but they feel he is not prepared for such a significant responsibility.
Álex Valle is currently loaned to Celtic FC and may serve as a possible solution, though the board remains somewhat unconvinced.
In the future, Barcelona will have to evaluate the development of their young players and might be compelled to invest funds to address this position.
