Welcome Another Viking: Former Minnesota Star Joins Washington’s Roster

For certain players, the NFL can resemble a game of musical chairs as they seek a permanent place. Some players choose to stay with one team for a long time, while others may end up playing for several teams over a brief span.

It may seem strange to watch a former Minnesota Vikings player getting ready for a different team. Occasionally, fans may become attached to a player and then feel a bit odd when they don a different team’s colors after previously wearing purple and gold.

The Vikings have made significant changes to their roster in recent years. It’s not unexpected to encounter a past Minnesota player with another team or even several ex-players in the same location.

Recently, the Washington Commanders acquired wide receiver K.J. Osborn off waivers and will have the chance to receive passes in the nation’s capital. He will now have an additional former Minnesota player added to that roster.

The Washington Commanders’ official site revealed that they signed kicker Greg Joseph to their practice squad on Friday. Most recently, he played for the New York Giants but was put on IR due to an oblique injury and was waived in November.

Prior to that, he played three seasons as the kicker for the Minnesota Vikings. During that period, he made 83 of his 101 field goal attempts and 112 of his 124 extra point attempts, accumulating a total of 361 points.

The 30-year-old kicker will require a development with the existing Washington starting kicker Zane Gonzalez to gain a chance to elevate to the 53-man roster. Presently uncertain for Week 15 due to a foot injury, Joseph may have his next chance coming soon.

Gonzalez fully participated in practices on Thursday and Friday, indicating he might be ready for Sunday’s game versus the Saints. If he is not able to play, anticipate the Commanders to promote Greg Joseph to the 53-man roster for kicking responsibilities.

As they approach Week 15, the Washington Commanders are in contention for the playoffs. They occupy the third and last Wild Card position, holding the No. 7 spot in the NFC with an 8-5 record. To conclude the season, they are scheduled to play against the New Orleans Saints, Philadelphia Eagles, Atlanta Falcons, and Dallas Cowboys.
