Rashford Rift Won’t Derail Man Utd’s Plans, Says Boss Amorim

Ruben Amorim has emphasized that he is confident in his approach as the Manchester United manager aims to restore the once-great English club amid a dispute regarding Marcus Rashford’s future.

Amorim has experienced a tumultuous journey since taking over from the dismissed Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford. United celebrated a late victory against local rivals Manchester City, but then suffered a 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth last weekend after a midweek 4-3 loss in the League Cup quarter-finals against Tottenham.

Rashford was excluded from all three matches, and the 27-year-old, who came through the United youth academy, appears to be more likely to depart from Old Trafford.

The challenged England international sparked rumors regarding his own future by stating he was “prepared for a new challenge” during a midweek interview. However, Amorim, addressing the media before the Boxing Day match against Wolves, emphasized that his perspective remained unchanged.

“Usual scenario,” he stated. “When I sense that the time is right, I will make a change.” Until that time, I will keep considering what is best for the team. I talk to him (Rashford) daily. “Not concerning the interview, but regarding the performance.”

Amorim stated that Rashford “desires to play, he is making an effort” but emphasized that “the decision rests with me, solely my decision.” “I had conversations with many players – one-on-one, during practice – so I’m attempting to take actions…” “I’m handling things in my own manner,” the Portuguese manager stated. “And this is the sole method I’m aware of.” If I don’t take that action, I will lose who I am, and I refuse to lose myself. “I understand what I’m doing.”

Amorim raised concerns about the “decisions” made by those close to Rashford after he was excluded from the Bournemouth match, as Gary Neville remarked that the forward’s departure seemed like an “inevitable conclusion”.

The ex-United captain referred to it as a “distraction for the manager” – a point Amorim refuted on Tuesday.

“Not really, I don’t believe that’s the case,” he responded. “Not for me, not for the other players, as everyone is present daily for training, which means they grasp this, and that is the crucial aspect.” I can’t manage that for the media and other individuals.

“However, I am truly concentrated, and they understand; my message is crystal clear. Everyone in Carrington knows what I’m referring to and what I expect from Marcus and others.” Thus, it does not serve as a distraction for us. “It might be for the press, but that is not my issue.”

Amorim, when asked what else he wants from Rashford, responded: “Like any other player, their utmost potential.” If you possess significant talents, outstanding performance, substantial responsibility, and strong engagement, encourage everyone to move forward at this time. “Several individuals hold significant responsibilities here due to their long-standing presence.”

United currently sit at a lowly 13th position in the table before Thursday’s game against a team guided by Amorim’s fellow countryman Vitor Pereira, who is set to oversee his inaugural match at Molineux after recently directing Wolves to a 3-0 victory over Leicester.

“I realize that this is a difficult time, and I take responsibility,” stated Amorim. “From the very first day I came here, I’ve taken responsibility for the team. We need to concentrate on enhancing our performance, grasp the current situation, and not dwell on past events.”
