Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United is keen on acquiring Barcelona’s experienced centre-back Inigo Martinez.
Inigo Martinez has been a key player for Barcelona defensively under Hansi Flick. Although the experienced centre-back has often been a key player for them, his future with the club remains unclear as his contract expires at the season’s conclusion.
As per a report by Fichajes, Manchester United has expressed interest in acquiring the Spanish defender. The Red Devils aim to capitalize on his circumstances at the Catalan club.
Inigo Martinez’s period in Barcelona
Martinez joined Barcelona in the summer of 2023 on a free transfer after his contract with Athletic Club expired. Although his debut season wasn’t particularly impressive, the 33-year-old has displayed his finest form in the current season.
Due to the Spanish club facing injury issues, Hansi Flick has placed his trust in the experienced player to lead his defense, and he has delivered. He has participated in 24 matches, accumulated more than 2,100 minutes, and has made four goal contributions.
His leadership abilities, experience, and capacity to play from the back have greatly benefited the Catalan giants. With Martinez being a crucial player under Flick, the club aims to extend his contract that expires at the season’s conclusion. However, they have not achieved any advancement so far.
Manchester United have shown interest in Martinez.
His contract status has caught attention; Manchester United is aware of it and is contemplating a potential offer for him. Ruben Amorim is eager to strengthen his defense as a top priority, and the Red Devils are intrigued by the prospect of incorporating the experienced player into their team at no cost.
United’s entry into the scenario may hinder the discussions regarding contract renewal between the two sides. Martinez may wish to test himself in the Premier League during the last years of his deal. In the meantime, the Manchester club aims to offer him an attractive financial deal to bring him on board.
