In 2003, when 50 Cent burst onto the music scene and soared up the charts with his popular track “In da Club,” the world went wild. The track was omnipresent, playing on rap and Top-40 radio stations, in your friends’ sound systems, car CD players, MP3 devices, and indeed, in every nightclub from Boston to Oakland, California. Even now, the song has accumulated over 2.2 billion views on YouTube and its lyrics continue to be a hallmark of festivities: Go, shawty, it’s your birthday / We gon’ party like it’s your birthday / We gon’ sip Bacardí like it’s your birthday!
However, the world might not have had that song or maybe even recognized who 50 Cent was without the person who found him and significantly promoted him: Eminem. The Detroit rapper, who rose to fame in the late 1990s with Dr. Dre-produced tracks such as “My Name Is,” was not only at the height of rap music but was also identifying his successor. Their connection resulted in the legendary song “Patiently Waiting,” showcasing one of Em’s finest contributions on 50’s track.
With reports that the two might be collaborating on a new album, hip-hop enthusiasts will be eagerly anticipating the outcome. How will it be perceived? What should we anticipate? Here, we aim to discuss four aspects we would absolutely LOVE to see from the pair.
A Comeback to the Golden Era
When the two rappers reached their height around the turn of the century, they were both in their late 20s. Currently, their total age exceeds 100. However, with maturity also arrived success, as the duo together is valued at hundreds of millions of dollars. Given that level of comfort, it can be challenging to anticipate two of the most renowned and lucrative rappers to truly invest themselves and perform at their peak, as they did many years ago. However, we can continue to dream, can’t we?
Eminem could be the best rapper of all time. Certainly he ranks among the best as a true lyricist, employing internal rhymes, startling imagery, and captivating metaphors. However, his most recent project, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce), unfortunately did not resonate with fans. And he hasn’t released a notable song since maybe those MGK diss tracks. In a similar vein, 50 Cent has been creating television programs and earning profits through Vitaminwater. Considering everything, can we truly trust that their new album will mark a comeback?
Of course, why not! And everyone will support it if they simply launch …
A Track Similar to “Patiently Waiting”
When “Patiently Waiting” was released on 50 Cent’s album Get Rich or Die Tryin’ in 2003, true rap aficionados almost passed out. It didn’t achieve the same commercial success as “In da Club,” but for fans of intense tracks, it was superior. Forget about a whole album; if they can collaborate on a track like THAT again, if the rap gods can grace their pens with just one more touch of rap deity magic, if they can ignite the chemistry, passion, and fire just once more, then it will all be worthwhile. It might be a track produced by Dr. Dre, or perhaps Em will create the beat. In any case, keep your fingers tightly crossed!
A Journey
Many years back, when both were at their peak, they could have toured together and earned tens of millions of additional dollars. In reality, 50 Cent just mentioned that it would have been “the largest tour in the world.” However, Eminem turned down the chance. For what reason? In order to be at home with his daughter Hailie Jade and see her grow up. That’s really lovely material.
However, Hailie is now 29 years old and fully grown. She can use FaceTime to connect with her dad if they wish to catch up with each other. If the new album featuring Em and 50 is truly in the works, the ultimate bonus to that rap treat would be if they embarked on a tour of a dozen or more dates, showcasing both their new and classic tracks to fans nationwide (or globally). Alright, perhaps the latest music isn’t quite Hall of Fame material. However, during a tour, we have the opportunity to experience the past again!
Something Different
The classic adage is, naturally, that you can’t instruct an elderly dog in new skills. So, what do we say about veteran rappers? Certainly, given their talent, there is a chance. If Em and 50 can somehow reinvent the wheel, their standing as rap icons would rise to a level we might not even have a term for. Are they able to introduce anything innovative? Perhaps a fresh artist to find has an outstanding collaboration? Perhaps a fresh music video that impresses? Who can say? However, if Em’s recent bond with LL Cool J demonstrates something, there’s always potential for magic when the stars are aligned.
